Deciding to virtualize your IT infrastructure, and getting the needed knowledge of what, how and who is two different matters.  Drawing from our successes, we offer consulting on running tests on a client's current IT infrastructure, and recommending a course of action to take to virtualize their environment.

HW2VM certification

Even if we do the installation, or just supply the technology for setting up and running a VM eco system, Starship Systems offers education and certification on the required technology to technicians to setup and/or maintain an VM ecosystem.  This includes:

  1. Theory of virtualization and the user of Q-NETCHECK to construct a sane VM ecosystem architecture.
  2. Installation of the NEBULA VM OS server.
  3. General LINUX server setup skills and troubleshooting to ensure a technician can complete the installation of the NEBULA VM OS server (built on Ubuntu technology) even on difficult hardware when issues arises.
  4. Managing and maintaining the NEBULA VM OS server in a Microsoft centric environment, with the emphasis on load checking, fail over recovery and general server aspects of UNIX.
  5. Setting up new servers using the VM tools on the NEBULA VM OS server (VMWare server 1.0.5).
  6. Management of virtual machines on the newly setup VM ecosystem.
  7. Using the HW2VM tool for cloning hardware to a virtual server.
  8. Test criteria and checklists to ensure a correct hardware translation before “downing” the hardware server and switching the virtual server to production.
  9. Managing multiple VM front-end servers and using the Hot Standby tool to ensure as little as possible downtime on VM fail over.
  10. Management of the new VM ecosystem by using NEBULA NMS to keep an eye on all the running servers and receiving notifications on downtimes and server troubleshooting.
 

Software and hardware sales and consulting

Software

Starship Systems offers the whole range of needed technologies to establish a new VM ecosystems, or in most cases, convert a client's current environment to a VM ecosystem from the traditional structure.

Even if a client does not have a clear view of exactly how their network is put together, Starship Systems have developed (Q-NETCHECK) the tools to run the tests needed to make informed decisions.

Alongside these technologies, we can advise on other courses of action to take (e.g. implementing other vendors' VM technology) which might fit the client's needs better than the technology we offer.  We will make sure our tests comply with standards, and not just a single technology.

Hardware

Our software complies with industry standard hardware and will install on all the major servers (Intel and AMD) supplied by the big server suppliers.  But if a client to wish to have a “one stop shop”, we supply hardware of the highest quality from South African based providers alongside the needed server hardware warranties and support.

Virtual ecosystem testing, benchmarking and certification

Even on a running VM ecosystem, Starship Systems tools can be used to see if the architecture was done correctly.  The most important part is to know what load can be handled by your front-end VM server, what is best practices of reducing unnecessary downtime, and knowing if your virtual servers are running at the correct/full capacity.

NEBULA VM certification, acknowledging that a client's implementation, self implemented VM ecosystem on our supplied technology, or other vendor's technology, runs and performs as if it were a new implementation done from scratch by us on our technology.  This allows a client to benchmark their implementation to our standards
